Space Archaeology
A personal perspective
The background:
Some of the information I am offering here may seem somewhat ‘incredulous’ to some and possibly bizarre to others, however, the information and names (have not been changed) etc are all valid and true.
In 1998, as an archaeologist I was approached by one James Wilkie and Dr Jan Merta (mentioned in over 18 ‘Whose Who’ books and nominated for the most accomplished man in the 1980’s). James (Jim) and Jan hailed from Canada, where Jim had been writing up on his own for many years towards an understanding of the texts of the books of Genesis and Exodus in the Old Testament and Revelation in the New Testament.
Jan, who at the time was chief Diving safety officer for Canada – and you can read ‘some’ of his bio here - http://janmerta.com/index.php?lang=1&page=clanek&akce=1&id=35

They approached me to ascertain whether I would be interested in joining their research team ‘Ambilac’ in Canada, which had been working on some incredible discoveries on the total mathematical and astronomical layouts of the Giza Plateau.
To cut a very long story short I ultimately ended up joining their team a short time later and by 1999, we had already written a number of articles on the ambilac.ca website.
By 2001 we had the basic data and information for at least one major publication, which was published that year ‘Giza Genesis The Best Kept Secrets’.
By 2001 we had the basic data and information for at least one major publication, which was published that year ‘Giza Genesis The Best Kept Secrets’.
By 2002 we amassed further data for a Volume 2 release. We changed publishers in 2003 and had our two volumes published in that year – the second volume had a added title ‘The Sphinx Revealed’
At one time we received over 300,000 hits on our Canadian website per week! However, due to our webmaster in 2002 letting us down in more than a few ways, I set up the UK Ambilac site to keep articles and news alive, and it is still going, albeit slightly bare as I do not get the time to add to it.

A slight deviation, but our two books were sent by our publisher to the Television group who controlled National Geographic and Discovery, with an interest in developing a possible documentary on the Pyramid necropolis on the Giza Plateau. This never materialised, but ‘Gekko’ productions of MGM, part of the same television organisation, were producing at the time a Television series called ‘Stargate 1’, and we noticed a few episodes of the fictional series were being played out via our chapters from our ‘Giza-Genesis’ publication. We were informed…’well, you can’t copyright an idea’! The rest they say is history.
Before I venture on to demonstrate what this has to do with ‘space archaeology’ I must inform you that Jim passed away 2 years ago in the summer of 2009, and Jan passed away suddenly in 2010, while he was back in his home country of the Czech Republic.
When I first teamed up with Jim and Jan in 1998, Jim was in occasional contact with one Dr Farouk el-Baz, an Egyptian by birth who was working at the time for NASA as a specialist in satellite imaging. In fact it was Farouk el-Baz who was responsible for surveying the data for the moon and mars landing missions – You can read more of Farouk here - http://faroukelbaz.com
(In Arabic and English) and at his Center for Remote sensing site in Boston - http://www.bu.edu/remotesensing/faculty/el-baz/
While we were preparing for the original volume 1 book on the Giza-Genesis, we amassed some interesting space satellite imagery for which Jim received the occasional advice from Farouk. At this time Dr el-Baz, was interested in and searching out some incredible discoveries in the Jordanian desert on underground ancient cities. This was in the period during the 1990’s to circa 2001.
As many of you may appreciate, the data and information emanating from the military satellites is of a restricted and classified manner and any resulting collated data is only passed on a ‘need to know basis’. Thus, the ‘archaeological’ and related topographical material collated by these military satellites was pretty much low down on the levels of agenda. All data collated was analysed first by the military (NASA) in order to extract any classified and relevant material, very much like the GPS satellite information which we commonly use today, albeit restricted!
The military have been using these ever-developing sophisticated satellites for many years, at least since the early 1980’s, and they originally used the data collected from the deserts of Egypt as an ‘experimental’ approach to assist NASA in the Mars landings programme.
Thus, by the late 1990’s they had already covered most of the topography of Egypt and elsewhere, before moving on to ‘higher planes’ as it were. Once the data had been analysed and checked for any ‘classified’ material, the data was passed on to other organisations AKA – Universities, institutions and later available to lesser mortals such as archaeologists etc.
One of my ‘experiences’ of attempting to utilise such imaging material prior to any general release, caused the shut down of my access to all of my websites connected through any ac.uk (academic sites). I was only able to get access for the two weeks in which it was closed to me via any public terminal. I was unable to access from home or via any university PC. A technician friend of mine eventually tracked the issue to a cyber server worm which was literally ‘worming’ its way around the server systems. The point of origin was traced to a public terminal of a library in New York, where amongst the address was some obscure section of, yes, NASA. That was in 2001, and we have experienced a few other ‘hic-cups’ since, but not in recent years, so possibly ‘they’ (whoever ‘they’ are) may believe our ‘risk’ of revealing classified material, or access to it, is now minimal.
To give you some idea of figures, back in early 2001, we were receiving ‘hits’ from our website of around 300 – 400 from various sections and sub departments of the military – including a regular viewing from some military nuclear defence department.
To demonstrate what you may think be a bizarre twist in our past research was the ‘intervention’ of the Vatican! In 2003 when we were ‘blazing’ away on the dial up modem (remember the dial up?!) I was passed information on some research towards our second volume on astronomical data, and in the information the then new telescope constructed on behalf of the Vatican Arizona was mentioned – see here http://vaticanobservatory.org/
Upon commenting on the date via email, within as few hours my PC had been compromised and file extraction attempted. Subsequent tracking, via the same friendly technician, who at the time was somewhat bemused and needless to say sceptical, discovered the point of origin was from a section of the Vatican City. From that point on, the technician was no longer a sceptic!
So, what does this all really mean? The above is a an extremely short ‘rant’ and explanation of a complex string of events over 12 years, but the major points being are as follows.
NASA and the Military and associated government sections are inexplicably linked, due to agendas, funding and the ‘public face’ – just like that quote in the movie ‘Independence Day’ “where do you think the money is going, on 20,000 dollar toilet seats” etc
Any data or software developed in the satellite imaging programme, will not see the public light of day until they have used the hardware and software to its maximum, then we get the ‘cast offs’. The same applies to any results that may have ensued.
The remote sensing imaging of Egypt was carried out many years ago, and at the time they discovered many ancient sites under the deserts, however, their agenda was not of archaeological importance, so the findings were put on the back burner. The thrust of the then current programme was of ‘extra terrestrial’ – Mars.
Over the years complex software was developed to overlay the remote sensing data, in order to highlight and emphasise certain topographical features, such as the use of Infra Red and much more. Again, once they had completed their use of these data, it was ‘passed on’ and the latest ‘casts offs’ as we are now witnessing ourselves, is the ‘new’ pioneering subject of ‘space archaeology’.
Archaeologists, geologists and topographers now have at their disposal incredible software imaging to define and search out all manner of interesting sites, including the ancient buried sites of Egypt and elsewhere; but it is not ‘new technology’ The only thing ‘new’ is the application of the system, where we are now ‘allowed’ to access and use the programmes.
Hence, the major funding by such organisations as NASA, to universities in order to propagate their name and future funding by demonstrating to the public their programmes are of great use for all.
With the shuttle programme now coming to an end as I write this, who knows what will be revealed in the coming months.
